What made you want to be a member?
  • I actually was asked to join in the early 80's by a good friend of mine who was and still is a member. My response to him was, "What would I do at an Ambulance Corp"? Then in 2006, my daughter joined with her friend and thought that I would enjoy being a member since I liked the medical field but never pursued it. Her final line was "you can always quit if you don't like it". I was hooked ever since.

  • FEMA-NIMS Levels: 005/100/200/700 (2013)
What made you want to be a member?
  • I have always been rooted in community service so when I joined the WLVAC Cadet Corps as a sophomore in high school, it did not come as a surprise to those who knew me. This department was recommended to me by a close friend who was a member at the time. As a person who prefers to get out in the field and accomplish tasks, WLVAC appealed to me because at age 16 I had the ability to respond to real emergencies to help real people in the community. Other departments only offered drill opportunities to volunteers under the age of 18 and cadet groups in most other departments were oriented solely towards firefighting instead of EMS. The combination of learning new skills, making new friends, and having the ability to make an immediate and positive difference in someone's life when they need it the most ultimately lead me to join and remain in the Wantagh-Levittown Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
